  • International Women’s Day

    International Women's Day (IWD) is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8th. IWD gives focus to issues that face women such as gender equality. Spurred on by the universal female suffrage movement, IWD originated from labor movements. The earliest IWD version recorded was a “Women’s Day” organized in New York City on February 28, 1909. From these humble beginnings, it was proposed that "a special Women's Day" be organized annually. The following year saw the first demonstrations and commemorations of International Women's Day across Europe.     Amy Modesti from Cropseyville, New York is the founder of “ALM Fine Art and Photography” and “Around Town With Amy Modesti”, and is a multi-media artist, photographer, and photojournalist. Specializing in concert and event photography, Modesti made her mark in the promotion and documentation of the Capital Region’s creative and energetic live music and art scene.
