The 18th Annual Founders’ Celebration Luncheon will take place at 11:30 am\, on Tuesday\, October 29\, 2019\, in the Lakeview Room at The Beltrone Living Center\, located at 6 Winners Circle in Albany. \nWe are proud to announce the 2019 Colonie Senior Spirit Awardees: \nAndy Vosburgh Auto Repair will receive the Fred G. Field Transportation Colonie Senior Spirit Award for their efforts to promote independence and self-reliance for seniors by developing and expanding senior transportation options.  \nThe Sisters of St. Joseph – Sisters of St. Joseph’s Provincial House will receive the Ann Marie Sheehy Bright Horizons Colonie Senior Spirit Award. This is being presented for their commitment and achievement in providing and enhancing access to adult day services and caregiver support for seniors and their families. \nColonie Town Supervisor Paula Mahan and the Town Board will receive the Joseph R. DESCRIPTION:The journey continues on Wednesday\, October 23\, as we visit another sacred space in the Capital District. Join Diane Conroy-LaCivita as she travels to Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Loudonville. Located at 1 Maria Drive\, Christ Our Light was formed by a 2009 merger of St. Francis de Sales and Our Lady of Mercy parishes. In February 2015\, the church unveiled its completely renovated modern worship space – the result of years of planning and six months of holding Masses in the parish hall. Parish officials said the changes made the church’s sanctuary more intimate and enhanced the experience of celebrating Mass as a community. On their website their mission is listed as follows: “We are a welcoming Catholic Community of disciples encouraging all to celebrate and experience the love of Christ.” \nThe group will be meeting with church leadership and will be provided a tour of the church. DESCRIPTION:Anyone in the business of serving pizza probably does not need to be reminded that October is National Pizza Month in the United States. While the contribution of the first pizzerias in this country cannot be ignored\, it was really the returning American soldiers who fought in Italy during World War II that brought a hunger for pizza home with them and pushed its popularity over the top. America’s love of pizza continued to grow and now October is the official National Pizza Month across most of North America. DESCRIPTION:October became known as Pork Month because it marked the time of year when hogs were traditionally marketed. Today\, it serves as a celebration to thank pork producers and share their stories with consumers. \nPork is the world’s most widely eaten meat representing 42 percent of the meat consumed\, according to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service. SUMMARY:Calling All Cheese Lovers
DESCRIPTION:From freshly made Chèvre to ripened Camembert-style cheeses and aged Cheddar\, the annual Washington County Cheese Tour will delight palates and enthrall cheese lovers of every age. On Sunday\, September 8\, several creative farmstead cheese makers in Washington County will open their farms to the public. Participants will be driven through lush\, rolling hills and bucolic countryside. The only prerequisite is an appetite and interest in learning about and sampling award-winning local cheeses and enjoying the changing colors of our famed maple trees. \nAt each farm\, (Argyle Cheese Farmer\, Consider Bardwell Farm\, Dancing Ewe Farm\, and Moxie Ridge Farm)\, guests will sample specially selected cheeses while experiencing firsthand the region’s long-standing cheese making traditions reaching back to the nineteenth century. All are active farms\, raising cows\, sheep\, and goats that supply the milk for the cheese-making process. In addition\, the group will be visiting Victory View Vineyard\, a small farm in rural Washington County that grows the grapes for all their wines on their farm\, and handcrafts and bottles all their wines at their farm winery. \nPremiere Transportation will take the group from The Beltrone Living Center at 9 a.m. and we expect to be back at approximately 4 p.m. Please note: This outing will involve walking at the farms and will require getting on and off the bus five times. We suggest you wear comfortable shoes/clothing and be prepared for the weather. Attendees may also want to bring a small cooler and ice packs to preserve cheese purchases and other farm bounty. A recently awarded NYS grant is partially assisting with the transportation cost of this outing. DESCRIPTION:Please join CSSC on Thursday\, August 29\, as we venture down to the Catskill Region of New York State to experience two historic sites\, the historic homes of landscape painters\, Thomas Cole and Frederick Church\, in addition to a wonderful winery and a new bridge walkway across the Hudson River. Attendees will experience the same iconic views of the Hudson River Valley that inspired the landscape painters of Hudson River School\, a 19th century American art movement. Their famous paintings typically depicted the Hudson River Valley and the surrounding area\, including the Catskill\, Adirondack\, and White Mountains. \nPremiere Transportation will be taking the group from The Beltrone Living Center at 8:30 a.m. to travel to the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill for a tour\, then to walk across the 5\,000-foot Rip Van Winkle Bridge’s Hudson River Skywalk\, then on to Olana State Historic Site in Hudson for a tour and finally\, to the Hudson-Chatham Winery in Ghent for a wine tasting. We expect to be back to The Beltrone Living Center by 5:30 p.m. \nPlease note: This outing will involve quite a bit of walking and we suggest you wear comfortable shoes/clothing and be prepared for the weather. The gardens are situated on lower and upper terraces divided by a pergola. The lower part is more formal and reflects Italian and French Renaissance influences. The upper part is a woodland rock garden\, a style that came into fashion in the late nineteenth century. Presently\, Yaddo is a retreat—a space for artists to stay and create. This trip will include a fair amount of walking over uneven surfaces.
