DESCRIPTION:Fifth Annual Chefs in Motion: Culinary Tasting and Competition \nMonday\, September 18\, 2023\nThe Beltrone Living Center\, 6 Winners Circle\, Albany\, NY \nYou are cordially invited to join us on Monday\, September 18\, 2023\, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm\, at The Beltrone Living Center\, 6 Winners Circle\, Albany for the Fifth Annual Chefs in Motion: Culinary Tasting and Competition. Led by Colonie Senior Service Centers\, Chefs in Motion is a collaboration between New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets\, Cornell Cooperative Extension\, and area growers and producers to highlight the fantastic items grown and produced in New York State. \nTo support this initiative\, participating chefs will be provided a “shopping cart” of locally sourced products and seasonal produce prior to the event and will be asked to create a signature dish\, either a soup\, salad\, or entrée whose ingredients are at least 75% locally sourced. At a designated time during the event\, participating chefs will present their signature dish to a selected panel of judges. This year\, our distinguished panel of judges will include Chef Joan Dembinski\, Chef Yono Purnomo\, Chef Harold Qualters\, Farmer Cindy Barber and NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard Ball (invited). In addition\, the anticipated one hundred and fifty guests at the event will have the opportunity to sample all the dishes and vote for their personal favorite. At the conclusion of the event\, trophies will be awarded in two categories: People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice. The winner in each category will win $500 and bragging rights. \nSeveral NYS wineries and microbreweries will be present providing a vast sampling of different locally produced beverages. There will be local chocolate milk tasting provided by Van Wie Farms and the Saratoga County Dairy Princess and her Court will be scooping out samples of fabulous NYS ice cream. The evening will also feature live music and a silent auction. DESCRIPTION:On the grounds of the Historic Pruyn House Friday\, October 20\, 2023\, 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. \nThe Bootin’\, Scootin’ Fallallapalooza is designed to be an intergenerational\, celebratory fall festival open to all. It is chaired by Carrie Hillenbrandt\, Senior Vice President at BBL Hospitality\, with DJ Kevin Richards from 100.9 The Cat serving as emcee. This event will take place in the Buhrmaster Barn as well as on the grounds of the historic Pruyn House complex in Latham on Friday\, October 20 from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. “Bootin’\, Scootin’ Fallapalooza” will feature live bands including the Hammerhead Horns and the New Whiskey River Band. In addition to dancing\, activities\, food and beer concessions\, a Hot Coco Bar\, and a children’s art station will be featured. \nGet yourself moving and grooving. Join us at 4:30 p.m. for a beginner line dancing lesson in the Buhrmaster Barn with Kevin Richards before the live music begins at 5:00 p.m.Be part of the fun\, win fabulous prizes as well as bragging rights. Spurred on by the universal female suffrage movement\, IWD originated from labor movements. The earliest IWD version recorded was a “Women’s Day” organized in New York City on February 28\, 1909. From these humble beginnings\, it was proposed that “a special Women’s Day” be organized annually. The following year saw the first demonstrations and commemorations of International Women’s Day across Europe. IWD became a mainstream global holiday following its adoption by the United Nations in 1977. \nThis year’s international theme is “Inspire-Inclusion”. Please join us on Friday\, March 8th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Lakeview Room at The Beltrone Living Center for breakout sessions\, informational tables\, demonstrations and live musical entertainment. To support this initiative\, participating chefs will be provided a “shopping cart” of locally sourced products and seasonal produce prior to the event and will be asked to create a signature dish\, either a soup\, salad or entrée whose ingredients are at least 75% locally sourced. \nThe official judges will be scoring in four categories: Creativity\, Taste\, Appearance and Use of Locally Sourced Ingredients. Additionally\, attendees to the event will choose the People’s Choice Award. Fun will be had by all. There will be a $500.00 cash prize for Judges Choice and People’s Choice. This fall festival is taking place on Thursday\, October 10\, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in The Donald Led Duke Pavilion on the King Thiel Campus at 11 Elks Lane in Latham. \nThe event will feature emcee Kevin Richards from 100.9/107.1 The Cat\, live music from local bands Hammerhead Horns and the New Whiskey River Band. Come enjoy line dancing\, a square dance demonstration by The Shoe Leather Express\, a complimentary cider and hot chocolate bar\, food concessions\, a cash bar\, as well as raffles\, activities\, and contests for all ages. In fact\, don’t forget to wear your cowboy boots for the Best Boot contest! \nThere are two additional contests you can sign up for and participate in ahead of time: Tombstone Epitaph and Jack-O-Lantern. There is no fee to participate in either contest and fabulous prizes will be awarded to the winners. \nTombstone Epitaph – Using construction foam supplied by CSSC and your own art supplies\, create a unique piece of art that will be displayed on the ground at the event. CSSC will be awarding prizes in the following categories: Best of Humor\, Most Profound/Touching/Moving\, and Most Creative/Artistic. \nJack-O-Lantern – Using a pumpkin supplied by CSSC\, create a carved\, themed creation that will be displayed at the event. A panel of local artists will judge the entries on creativity and overall theme. Winter is an especially challenging time for older adults as they are often in their homes and isolated. So please join us at this year’s Warmth of Winter\, it promises to be a fun evening of sumptuous food stations\, wine selections\, craft beer tastings\, a cornhole competition\, a mystery key game\, our famous wine pull and an amazing auction. This year’s Mother’s Day Fashion Show and Luncheon\, with CSSC Board Member Camille Hoheb as Chair\, is scheduled to take place on Friday\, May 9th\, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.\, in the Lakeview Room at The Beltrone Living Center\, 6 Winners Circle\, Albany. For 27 years\, Colonie Senior Service Centers\, Inc. has honored and recognized our grandmothers\, moms and daughters at this entertaining annual event. In addition to honoring the beloved women in our lives\, we also raise funds through corporate sponsors\, honorary committee and community tickets sales that help fund our Transportation Services Department that has been transporting seniors since 1984. Your donation will be put into action each and every day as we transport seniors to their medical appointments\, shopping outings\, volunteer opportunities in the community as well as social\, cultural\, life-long learning and religious events.
