DESCRIPTION:Join Diane on her next scheduled international excursion to Moliendo Café\, 791 Madison Avenue in Albany on Wednesday\, June 1 at 4:30 p.m. (CSSC bus will be leaving by 4:00 p.m.) \nHumble and brightly lit\, Moliendo Café feels as warm and welcoming as their traditional Colombian cooking. Owner Diane Murcia\, a native of Medellin\, Colombia\, opened the restaurant in 2017 which is known for its delicious ethnic Colombian menu complete with soups\, cheese breads and empanadas (soups are integral to Colombian cuisine). \nThe cost of the meal is $30. Attendees will be ordering off a specially chosen event menu which will include a choice of beverage\, appetizer\, entrée and dessert. Space is limited and registration is required. June is dedicated to German music\, culture and cuisine. \nWe will be entertained by the Accord-A-Tones\, Becky and Herb Liebenhagen of Cohoes\, a husband and wife team who play authentic International music\, specializing in German Folk Music. \nThis event is possible with the generous support from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Arts Center for the Capital Region. Weather permitting\, the concert will be held in the south-end gazebo at The Beltrone Living Center. If prohibited by weather\, the concert will be moved to The Beltrone’s Lakeview Room. \nThis event will be open to the public free of charge and will have ethnic food available for purchase as well. CSSC will also make available free tabling opportunities to groups/clubs associated with the ethnic group. Our goal is to create a safe\, festive\, welcoming venue that individuals can appreciate\, love\, local musical talent. DESCRIPTION:The North Reformed Dutch Church \nThe journey continues on Thursday\, November 10\, at 1:00 p.m.\, as we take trip to the North Reformed Church in Watervliet located at 1501 1st Street. Join Diane as we visit a historic church that has been repurposed but still holds much of its historic integrity. \nThe North Reformed Dutch Church\, referred to as the “Old Church”\, was built in 1839 north of the Watervliet Arsenal. Another Dutch Reformed Church had been in existence south of the Arsenal since 1814\, called Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Washington and Gibbonsville. \nThe steeple of the North Church was blown off in 1854\, along with the Meneely bell\, which had to be replaced. This bell was last rung during the Vietnam War. There were also two disastrous fires – in 1900 and 1924. \nMany prominent families were members of the North Church\, including Meneely\, Schuyler\, Oothout\, Lansing\, Witbeck\, Gibbons\, and VanDenburgh. \nThe congregation of North Church split in the 1860’s and many members in 1872 moved into a new church building at 601 Fifth Avenue which became the Jermain Memorial Presbyterian Church built as a memorial to Silvanus P. Jermain by his son James B. Jermain. \nIn 1968\, North Reformed and the First Baptist Church in Watervliet united to form Christ Church. Christ Church closed in 2001. \nThe annex or church hall\, which was built in 1865\, today houses the Watervliet Historical Society and Museum. \nThe CSSC shuttle bus will leave The Beltrone Living Center at 12:45 p.m. and will return at approximately 2:15 p.m. This outing will require some walking and a few stairs. \nTo make a reservation\, please call Diane at 518-459-2857 ext. 305.
