DESCRIPTION:A caregiver is a person who has accepted responsibility for looking after a vulnerable neighbor or relative. A caregiver assists others in need\, putting the needs and wants of the one they are caring for ahead of their own. This unselfish act ensures the safety and well-being of those in their care. \nOn Wednesday\, November 19\, at 4 p.m.\, at The Beltrone Living Center\, Bright Horizons Adult Day Social Program will honor the caregivers of our fourty-five members. One of our guest speakers will be Renee Birnbaum a Certified Senior Advisor and co-owner of Choice Connections NY\, a senior housing advisory and placement agency. It was her personal journey coping and caring for her own parents who had both been diagnosed with dementia that inspired her to work in the field of geriatrics. \nRenee founded Senior Care Solutions of NY\, a long island based geriatric care management practice.  She spent many years working with families helping them make a plan and access services for their loved one. After moving to Saratoga Springs in 2012\, Renee took a position as Community Relations Director for Home Helpers and Direct Link\, a licensed homecare agency. \nIn 2016\, Renee joined Melonie Pratt as co-owner of Choice Connections NY.  Choice Connections a FREE senior housing practice serving the greater capital region and outlying counties. Choice Connections NY works with families and helps them transition to independent\, assisted living\, memory care or enhanced care communities when remaining home is no longer desired. Renee’s expertise in both case management and homecare allows her to work with families\, assess their needs and help them navigate the senior housing marketplace and access appropriate resources that are needed.  Ms. Birnbaum knows how emotionally overwhelming it is for families to accurately determine the needs of a loved one and to access the services that can maintain and nurture their quality of life. \nOther speakers will include Bright Horizons staff\, volunteers\, and members\, CSSC board members\, and our very special guests—our dedicated caregivers. This year’s Mother’s Day Fashion Show and Luncheon\, with CSSC Board Member Camille Hoheb as Chair\, is scheduled to take place on Friday\, May 9th\, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.\, in the Lakeview Room at The Beltrone Living Center\, 6 Winners Circle\, Albany. For 27 years\, Colonie Senior Service Centers\, Inc. has honored and recognized our grandmothers\, moms and daughters at this entertaining annual event. In addition to honoring the beloved women in our lives\, we also raise funds through corporate sponsors\, honorary committee and community tickets sales that help fund our Transportation Services Department that has been transporting seniors since 1984. Your donation will be put into action each and every day as we transport seniors to their medical appointments\, shopping outings\, volunteer opportunities in the community as well as social\, cultural\, life-long learning and religious events. Becoming a member of the Mother’s Day Fashion Show’s Honorary Committee will guarantee you a seat at the event\, and you will be recognized with your name in the event program. DESCRIPTION:Your Content Goes Here\nInternational Women’s Day (IWD) is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8th. IWD gives focus to issues that face women such as gender equality. Spurred on by the universal female suffrage movement\, IWD originated from labor movements. The earliest IWD version recorded was a “Women’s Day” organized in New York City on February 28\, 1909. From these humble beginnings\, it was proposed that “a special Women’s Day” be organized annually. The following year saw the first demonstrations and commemorations of International Women’s Day across Europe. IWD became a mainstream global holiday following its adoption by the United Nations in 1977. \nThis year’s international theme is “Inspire-Inclusion”. Please join us on Friday\, March 8th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Lakeview Room at The Beltrone Living Center for breakout sessions\, informational tables\, demonstrations and live musical entertainment. This event will take place in the Buhrmaster Barn as well as on the grounds of the historic Pruyn House complex in Latham on Friday\, October 20 from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. “Bootin’\, Scootin’ Fallapalooza” will feature live bands including the Hammerhead Horns and the New Whiskey River Band. In addition to dancing\, activities\, food and beer concessions\, a Hot Coco Bar\, and a children’s art station will be featured. \nGet yourself moving and grooving. Join us at 4:30 p.m. for a beginner line dancing lesson in the Buhrmaster Barn with Kevin Richards before the live music begins at 5:00 p.m.Be part of the fun\, win fabulous prizes as well as bragging rights. There will be three contests for all ages offered including Jack-o’-Lantern Totem Pole\, Tombstone Epitaph\, and Best-Looking Boots. From Verona\, NY\, Fritz’s Polka Band is NOT an oompa pa band or the stereotypical “polka” band. In fact\, FPB is known for breaking the stereotype regarding “polka” music. FPB is the first polka band to perform at a Woodstock Festival (Woodstock ’99)! A caregiver assists others in need\, putting the needs and wants of the one they are caring for ahead of their own. This unselfish act ensures the safety and well-being of those in their care. \nOn Tuesday\, November 20\, at 4 p.m.\, at The Beltrone Living Center\, Bright Horizons Adult Day Social Program will honor the caregivers of our seventy-nine members. One of our guest speakers will be Diana Wells who will share techniques for self-healing through Qi Gong. Other speakers will include Bright Horizons staff\, volunteers\, and members\, CSSC board members\, and our very special guests—our dedicated caregivers. We will have an open microphone available for anyone who would like to share their story. We hope you are able to join us for this special event. Refreshments\, entertainment\, and pies for Thanksgiving will be given to each caregiver to enjoy at their Thanksgiving table. Non-veterans are asked to make a suggested donation of $5. \nThe luncheon will feature music by the Tri-County Banjo Band; harmonica player Roland “Bud” Abare\, a Vietnam Veteran; and Rafi\, “The Singing Jeweler.” Additionally\, members of the Joseph E. Zaloga Post 1520\, representatives of the New York State Military and Naval Affairs\, and Albany High School’s JROTC program will take part in the brief ceremony. The lunch menu is Philadelphia Steak Sandwich with Peppers and Onions\, Green Beans\, Fruit Cup\, and Red\, White and Blue Cupcakes. A vegetarian option is available.
