DESCRIPTION:Join Abby from SABBA Vineyards in the community room at King Thiel Senior Community on Thursday\, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. for a class entitled NYS WINE 101. Established in 2012\, SABBA Vineyard is a small family-run vineyard in New York State’s Hudson Valley. They are both sculptors and winemakers. Their dedication to the art of sculpting\, growing the best grapes and making the most delicious wine is born out of their love for the beauty it bringsto our cherished land and the joy of sharing fine award-winning wine with friends and family. \nAttendees will be presented with a flight of wines for tasting that demonstrate the variety of varietals produced at SABBA Vineyards. Abby’s wines will be paired with cheeses produced by Sean O’Connor of R&G Cheesemakers in Troy. \nThere is a $5 fee to attend and registration is required. SUMMARY:Celebrating Fall’s Harvest and Local Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Thursday\, October 18\, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.\, as we offer a cooking demonstration concentrating on the area’s fall harvest and who in our community is making that happen. \nLaughing Earth has been an active farm for over two hundred years\, and as of December 2017\, is protected by an easement to be Farmland Forever. This farm is truly a testament to the power of community and the importance of making connections. The name Laughing Earth is inspired by a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson\, titled “Hamatreya.” The farm itself is a historic place\, with roots dating back to the 18th century. It is on the New York State Register of Historic Places and includes a charming family cemetery\, recently renovated thanks to the Brunswick Historical Society. \nZack and Annie Metzger are the stewards of the land and the proprietors of the business since 2015/2016. They are farmers because they care about providing healthy food for themselves and our community\, and about feeding the soil on which we depend. \nThe class will take place at King Thiel Senior Community\, 17 Elks Lane\, with a $5 fee and will include lunch. If you are worried about your protein intake\, rest assured that great\, delicious meats and additional German delights will be sampled and discussed at this class. Please feel free to wear your Lederhosen. There is a $5 fee to attend\, which includes a simple “German-inspired” lunch.
